Exploring the Foundations of a Peaceful Civilization
The challenges facing humanity are interconnected.
Peace cannot be considered separately from international governance. Security cannot be separated from human development. Education influences social resilience. Scientific and technological progress can create both unprecedented opportunities and new risks.
Universal Peace Era therefore approaches the future of humanity through a multidisciplinary perspective.
Our areas of work bring together research, education, foresight, dialogue, and the development of new ideas for a more peaceful and cooperative world.
1. PEACE & CONFLICT PREVENTION
Preventing conflict before it becomes war.
Peace is not achieved only when armed conflict ends.
It must also be built before tensions become crises, before crises become confrontations, and before confrontations become wars.
Universal Peace Era explores the political, economic, social, cultural, historical, and institutional factors that contribute to conflict and examines approaches capable of strengthening prevention, mediation, dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.
Our work includes research into conflict prevention, peacebuilding, diplomacy, mediation, reconciliation, international dialogue, and the conditions necessary for sustainable peace.
We believe that prevention should be considered one of humanity's most important investments.
2. GLOBAL GOVERNANCE
Rethinking how humanity governs shared challenges.
Many of the challenges confronting humanity cannot be solved effectively within national borders.
Climate change, global security, technological risks, pandemics, international financial instability, transnational crime, and the protection of global commons require forms of cooperation that operate beyond traditional national frameworks.
Universal Peace Era studies the evolution of international institutions and explores possible models for more effective, legitimate, representative, democratic, and accountable global governance.
Our work includes research into international law, institutional reform, decision-making mechanisms, global cooperation, subsidiarity, and the possible long-term evolution of the international system.
We explore how humanity might progressively develop the capacity to act collectively while preserving the legitimate diversity and autonomy of nations and peoples.
3. EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge as an infrastructure of peace.
Education has the power to transform individuals, societies, and civilizations.
Universal Peace Era promotes education and access to knowledge as essential foundations of peaceful coexistence, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and responsible citizenship.
Our work explores education in its broadest sense: history, science, technology, economics, philosophy, cultures, religions, international relations, entrepreneurship, conflict resolution, and the study of humanity itself.
We seek to make knowledge more accessible and to encourage people to understand the world beyond their immediate environment.
A better-informed humanity is better equipped to question prejudice, resist manipulation, understand differences, and resolve disagreements peacefully.
4. HUMAN SECURITY & RESILIENCE
Protecting people and strengthening societies.
Security should ultimately serve human life and human dignity.
Universal Peace Era explores approaches to security that place greater emphasis on prevention, resilience, protection, humanitarian response, disaster preparedness, reconstruction, and the capacity of societies to withstand crises.
Our research examines how human, scientific, technological, logistical, medical, and organizational capabilities could increasingly be mobilized to protect populations and strengthen resilience.
This includes the prospective exploration of concepts such as Social Armies, in which capabilities traditionally associated with national security could progressively contribute to disaster response, reconstruction, humanitarian assistance, and conflict prevention.
The objective is to explore new approaches to security that place human life and the protection of communities at their centre.
5. SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & HUMANITY
Ensuring that progress serves humanity.
Scientific and technological development is transforming civilization at an unprecedented pace.
Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, advanced computing, space exploration, energy technologies, and other emerging fields have the potential to profoundly improve human life.
They also introduce new risks, ethical questions, inequalities, and forms of disruption.
Universal Peace Era explores the relationship between technological progress and the future of humanity.
We encourage reflection on how scientific and technological capabilities can be developed and governed responsibly, while ensuring that innovation contributes to human development, international cooperation, security, and peace.
Our objective is not to oppose technological progress.
It is to help humanity think carefully about the direction in which that progress should take us.
6. LONG-TERM FUTURES
Thinking beyond the next decade.
The most consequential decisions of our time may affect generations that have not yet been born.
Universal Peace Era therefore develops long-term perspectives on the future of humanity.
Our work explores possible transformations extending from the coming decades toward the centuries that follow.
We examine questions concerning future institutions, civilization, technology, demographics, economics, international relations, human development, environmental sustainability, and the long-term evolution of humanity.
Our horizons extend beyond conventional political planning.
From 2050 to 2100, and potentially far beyond, we seek to encourage humanity to think in terms of generations and civilizations rather than only electoral cycles and immediate interests.
We do not claim to predict the future.
We seek to help humanity imagine possible futures, understand emerging risks, identify opportunities, and make wiser choices today.
AN INTERCONNECTED APPROACH
These areas of work cannot be considered in isolation.
Peace influences governance.
Governance influences security.
Security influences development.
Education influences every one of them.
Science and technology increasingly affect all dimensions of human society.
And every decision made today has consequences for future generations.
Universal Peace Era therefore seeks to develop an integrated approach to the future of humanity.
Our objective is to connect disciplines, perspectives, institutions, and generations in order to better understand the complex systems that shape our world.
Because the challenges of humanity are interconnected, the solutions must be interconnected as well.
